That Craving For Soda Is Doing More Harm To Your Kid's Oral Health

What is the big deal with soda? We consume it every so often, and it's even our favorite drink. From an early age, we wire our kids to think that sodas are a healthy drink. And that may be the reason we offer burgers and colas as a preferred treat for our kids whenever we visit Starbucks or McDonald's. Unfortunately, these treats are constantly sending the message that sipping soda frequently is perfectly normal. It's no surprise that when most kids are thirsty, they tend to ask for that carbonated soda drink rather than asking for milk or water. But wait, before you even give them that can of soda, take a moment to understand what it could be doing to the health of their teeth.

While soda might seem to be a harmless drink, the truth is that it contains harmful ingredients likely to cause numerous dental issues. Drinking soda frequently brings a lot of acid into our mouths. The presence of too much acid in our mouth tends to erode the enamel. We know that tooth enamel is the protective layer that guards the inner parts of the tooth. Therefore, if we let it be damaged by acids from sodas, we are making a big mistake. Damage to the tooth's enamel can contribute to severe pain, inflammation of the gums, cavities, sensitivity, and ultimately tooth loss.

Get in touch with our pediatric dentist to find out how sodas can harm your kid's dental health.

Here Is What Our Pediatric Dentist Says About Children's Dental Emergencies
A dental emergency can be scary not only for your child but also for you as the parent. The most important thing not to do is to panic. Be calm and find ways to deal with the situation before getting assistance from your child's emergency dentist. If the dental emergency is severe, you might want to call a pediatric dentist to know how to deal with your child's dental condition. Most pediatric dentists perform dental emergencies, and therefore it is okay to contact your child's pediatric dentist for help. The most common dental emergencies in kids that may require immediate attention are jawbone fracture, toothache, a broken tooth, or bleeding gums. Our pediatric dentists are always prepared to receive your child at any time to help maintain and improve their dental health.

Does Teeth Whitening Pose Any Risks?
Teeth Whitening half white smile width of 500 pixels
Just like any other dental procedure, teeth whitening can present certain risks. Although it is non-invasive and almost painless, professional teeth whitening can have some risks. The main concern is the use of teeth bleaching agents. Certain people need to avoid teeth whitening products, for instance, patients with sensitivity to peroxide and other bleaching chemicals that are used to whiten teeth. Sensitivity of gums and teeth is a common negative effect of teeth whitening, particularly when high-strength teeth whitening agents are used. Although the sensitivity fades over time after completing the treatment, it can still be uncomfortable for some people. Talk to us about teeth whitening and the risks it poses.
