What Happens if You Fail to See a Dentist Regularly?
dental patient anxiety 1058717948
Not visiting a dentist on a regular basis will increase your risk of having more significant work done, which could cost you more. Some oral issues can occur progressively without you noticing, and by the time you detect them, they have advanced and caused huge damage. Issues such as gum disease require a dentist to detect them. You may have the signs, but you may not know the extent of damage occurring in your mouth. Consider, for example, an infection that attacks the pulp or innermost part of the teeth where the nerves are found. It can kill the nerves, meaning you experience no pain, however, the infection is still active and continues to attack the tooth and can quickly reach the jawbone, damaging it.

Tooth Decay
Failing to visit our dentist regularly will cause problems such as severe tooth decay, which could mean a tooth extraction and the need for dental implant placement. Additionally, the infection-causing bacteria can find their way into the bloodstream where they move to other parts of the body. Here the bacteria can attack major organs, leading to more serious complications.

Gum Disease
One oral risk that can easily bring serious health conditions and complications is untreated gum disease. There is a connection between chronic ailments like heart disease, Alzheimer's, diabetes, high blood pressure, and gum disease. Regular dental visits provide a line of defense against gum disease. A dentist is able to detect gum disease, even in its mildest form, and start treatment to get rid of it in time. Also, the dentist is able to check for other oral problems such as oral cancer, which needs to be diagnosed early for effective treatment.

Plaque and Tartar
Not seeing a dentist may also allow an extreme buildup of plaque and tartar, which can discolor or stain your teeth and encourage bacteria and the development of gum disease.

Never think that you are doing yourself any good by not seeing a dentist on a regular basis.

I Received a Root Canal, What Can I Eat?
During a root canal, a dentist works to remove the inflamed or infected pulp. After removing the damaged pulp, the specialist cleans the inside of the canal, and afterward fills and seals the space. It is a treatment that is done when the root of a tooth is damaged.

After you have received the procedure, you may be wondering whether or not you should continue with your normal diet. Once you have had a root canal, you need to eat soft foods that need little chewing such as eggs, applesauce, yogurt, and fish. Try to avoid hard and hot foods because they may hurt the teeth. Our dentist may suggest that you avoid eating for the first few hours after the procedure until the numbing agent or anesthesia within the mouth wear off. This way, you won't bite your tongue or cheek.

Talk to us about the root canal procedure and we will answer any concerns you have.

Dental Bonding: A Fix for a Chipped Tooth

You have probably chipped a tooth at one time or another and are wondering if dental bonding can help. Yes, dental bonding is a less expensive alternative for restoring chipped teeth. Chipping of a tooth can occur when there is constant wear in a particular area of the tooth that weakens the enamel to a point where it breaks off.

A tooth may chip if you bite down on hard food. Accidents are also a culprit for chips and breaks on your teeth. Also known as a "filling," dental bonding can be an option for repairing broken or chipped teeth if only a small amount of enamel is missing. It's also an ideal choice if the chipping occurs on the front teeth.

The dental bonding technique utilizes a tooth-like composite resin to fill the missing enamel. This quick and painless procedure does not need numbing medication and our dentist can perform it in one visit. Nonetheless, dental bonding may not be as long-lasting as crowns and veneers and may not work for more extensive chipping or breaks on the enamel.

Reach out to our dentist to find out which option best works for you when you have a chipped tooth.
